Women's Court - Sarajevo

After five years of preparations, from May 7. - 10. 2015, the Women's Court took place in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

At this alternative court the women testified about their experiences of injustice suffered during war, conflict and peace, about the silenced, unrecognized and hidden crimes, as well as about the organized resistance of the women from the countries of former Yugoslavia.

More than 500 women took part at the Court, and NCGE is part of the organizational board of the Women's Court.

Education - Women's Court

On 25. and 26.04.2015, in Skopje, training was held for psychologists and psycho-therapists on the topic of dealing with women victims of violence in war and conflict. Topics elaborated in depth were: psychological consequences of trauma survivors of sexual violence in war, domestic violence and trafficking in women.

The training was lead by expert from "Medika" - Zenica, Ms. Marijana Senjak.


Seminar "Strengthening the role of women in combating gender based violence, discrimination and post-conflict democratic transition"

As a result of the long-term cooperation between National Council for Gender Equality from Macedonia and Centre for Women Victims of War ROSA from Croatia, from January 2015 started the realization of the activities of the project "Strengthening the role of women in combating gender based violence, discrimination and post-conflict democratic transition" in Macedonia.

Based on previously realized analysis (with questionnaires) the existing capacities and needs for trainings of local NGOs were defined. From 20th to 24th April 2015 in Skopje, a five-day seminar took place with 17 participants (representatives from local organizations from Kumanovo, Pehchevo, Kavadarci, Veles, Struga, Ohrid, Tetovo and Skopje).

The following themes were discussed at the seminar: history of feminist organizing, prejudices and truths about male violence against women, why women stay in violent relationships, role and possibilities of NGOs in the process of negotiating the access to EU (Croatian experience), peace activism of the women organizations in post-conflict society, Croatian experience of CSOs in the process of accession to EU.

The project is financed by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Croatia. 


Conference - Resolution 1325

On 20.04.2015 in Vilnius, Lithuania, international conference took place organized by OSCE, UN Women and the Lithuanian Government, and was attended by more than 70 experts from Europe, Asia and North America. Ms. Natasha Dimitrovska has the honor to attend the conference as a representative from the National Council for Gender Equality.

To mark the 15th anniversary of the adoption of Resolution 1325, the UN Secretary-General has commissioned a Global Study on the implementation at the global, regional and national levels of this key Resolution, highlighting good practice and challenges, as well as emerging trends and priorities.

The conference was an opportunity for the large number of experts and governmental and non-governmental representatives to share their experiences, good practices, problems, challenges, views for the future.

The first to open the conference was the President of Lithuania, Ms. Dalia Grybauskaitė, and the attendees has the opportunity to hear OSCE Secretary General, Mr. Lamberto Zannier, UN Women Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia, Ms. Ingibjorg Solrun Gisladottir, and Ms. Radhika Coomaraswamy, lead author of the Global Study.

Participation at conference

The president of NCGE, Savka Todorovska, participated as a panellist at the national conference to mark 20 years of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action "Empowering Women - Empowering Humanity: Picture it!" organized by UN Women in Macedonia and the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy. The conference took place on 06.03.2015.

Savka Todorovska, as one of the few activists from Macedonia who participated at the Conference in Beijing in 1985 talked about the situation then, her experience at the Conference and the current situation regarding women's rights in Macedonia.
