Commission on the Status of Women

The 60th session of the Commission on the Status of Women this year took place from 14 - 24 March.

This year priority theme was "Women’s empowerment and the link to sustainable development".

On the 24th the Agreed Conclusions were adopted on the priority theme, while the review theme at the session was "The elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls" from the fifty-seventh session of CSW.

Natasha Dimitrovska from NCGE participated at the session. She attended many side-events organized by NGOs on different topics, such as: Women and Media, Ending Violence against Women Globally, Women in Decision-Making Positions, Economic Empowerment of Women, etc.

The Commission on the Status of Women is also a great possibility for networking and establishing contacts with representatives from non-governmental organizations from around the world. 


Conference in Brussels on sustainability of regional partnerships

On January 26 and 27, 2016, in Brussels, organized by the regional office of TACSO, a conference took place to discuss the sustainability of the regional networks of civil society organizations implementing projects from the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA), mmore specifically the Civil Society Facility (CSF) and the Framework Partnership Agreement (FPA).

National Council for Gender Equality is part of the project "Coordinated efforts - Toward new European standards in protection of women from gender based violence" implemented by Autonomous Women's Center from Belgrade, Serbia.

Representative from NCGE at the conference was Natasha Dimitrovska.


One Billion Rising to End Violence against Women

Organized by National Council for Gender Equality, with support from UNDP, UN Women and UNFPA, on 14.02.2016 in Skopje, the international event V-Day "One Billion Rising to End Violence against Women" took place.

Violence against women is a global epidemic with one in three women experiencing some type of gender based violence during their lifetime. That is one billion women globally.

On this day, women with a dance encourage each other, activate, mobilize and gather to raise their voice against gender based violence. The movement "One Billion Rising" started in 2012, after the publication of the statistic by the United Nations that one in three women during their lifetime will be victim of some type of gender based violence.

Five-day training in Sofia, Bulgaria

Representatives of National Council for Gender Equality, during the period from 24 - 28 November 2015, participated at five-day training in Sofia, Bulgaria, in the frame of the project European Partnership for Activities that Include People with Risk of Marginalization.

During the training, the following topics were addressed: using fairy tales as therapy methods while working with victims of domestic violence, using drama as a method in educational and therapy work, using forum theatre in preventing aggression in young people, application of art techniques in work therapy especially with elderly persons, etc.

The project is financed by the European Union.


Project meeting

On 12.11.2015 in Skopje, a meeting took place on the topic of "Development strategy, plan and strengthening of the cooperation between CSOs and institutions working in the field of gender based violence, discrimination and post-conflict transition in the Republic of Macedonia."

The meeting was an occasion to share positive experiences and practices from the Republic of Croatia and the EU, as well as the experiences from the study visit in Zagreb, Croatia, where representatives from Macedonian institutions and CSOs visited Croatian institutions. A Manual for Working with Women Victims of Gender Based Violence was also presented at the meeting.

The meeting was part of the project "Strengthening the role of women in combating gender based violence, discrimination and post-conflict democratic transition" financed by the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia.
